DA VINCI
DA VINCI
DA VINCI is a talent development programme which follows Dr. Treffinger's Levels of Service (LoS) approach designed to help students develop their potential to the fullest. A wide variety of differentiated enrichment opportunities will support different segments of our West Viewans to
connect with their interests, lives and worlds, to discover their passions and interests, find what they learn intriguing, real, purposeful and useful;
encourage investigative and inquiry-based learning;
develop Passionate Learners, Confident Leaders, helping them to use their talents to create a better and more equitable world.
DA VINCI Capstone Project
DA VINCI Capstone Project witnessed the remarkable showcase of young minds tackling the carbon footprint challenge.
As Innovator and Explorer, pupils discover new ways of doing things in authentic situations through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines.
Through robotics and coding, P4 and P5 pupils think critically and explore different ways to address authentic issues on energy consumption and wastage. They participate in Sembcorp Greenwave Project to apply their knowledge and skills in Science and Technology to put into action their care for the environment.
Based on the design challenge given, pupils went through the design thinking process to focus on which sustainable goal they want to work on. The pupils went to Senja hawker centre to conduct the interviews to define a problem and point of view statement.
From inspiring ideas like smart robot composters to heartfelt solutions for our seniors, the West View Innovators of Tomorrow presented their ideas to MP representing the Zhenghua division of Holland–Bukit Timah GRC, Mr Edward Chia.
DA VINCI Internationalisation with Perth College
30 of our DA VINCI students learned together with 30 other friends from Australia, Perth College and had 4 different zoom sessions over 4 different days.
Our P5 DA VINCI students took on a virtual learning journey to Singapore Gardens by the Bay on sustainability efforts in Singapore. In the following session, they virtually visited Literature Centre in Perth and learnt strategies in writing good narrative essays from an author, Amanda Betts. The students also had a virtual visit to the Herdsman Lake in Perth to learn about wetland oasis in the heart of Perth. They learnt about the indigenous history of the area, the wildlife that lives here, and the importance of sustainability for this precious ecosystem.
In the last virtual exchange session, selected pupils from our school and Perth College shared their school’s sustainability efforts in promoting awareness on the importance of saving the environment. Our pupils shared the school’s Black Soldier Fly project in managing food waste as well as selected DA VINCI Capstone projects on reducing carbon footprints. They were engaged in interactive conversations through the Q&A sessions demonstrating their inquisitiveness and desire to learn.
The Primary 4 and Primary 5 pupils had the opportunity to experience a firsthand view of how environmental issues were addressed in Australian schools through our school’s internationalisation programme via Zoom sessions with pupils from Australia.
Our pupils gained a broader perspective on environmental conservational efforts by witnessing how pupils in Australia tackled sustainability challenges.
These experiences fostered a sense of global awareness and appreciation for cultural diversity among the pupils. Interacting with pupils from different backgrounds while learning about environmental studies can encourage collaboration, empathy, and the exchange of ideas, which are all crucial skills in today's interconnected world.
Encouraging a global mindset and an understanding of environmental issues from various perspectives will empower them to become more informed and proactive global citizens.
DA VINCI Internationalisation with Thai-Singapore International School
West View hosted 40 Primary 3 to Primary 5 pupils from Thai-Singapore International School. They observed our lessons and had the opportunity to mingle with our P4 and P5 pupils through activities that emphasised on teamwork. We hope to continue to host schools from other countries so that our pupils can develop cultural competence and be future global citizens and remain connected to the region and the world.
West View Primary School believe that every child is special, with unique combinations of talents and abilities. We recognise these differences and seek to provide students with varied opportunities to maximise their potential to the fullest, at the same time to develop our students in the development of critical and inventive thinking (CIT) and 21st century competencies (21CC).
