MTL Cultural Day
Our MTL team at MK@WV started a Cultural Day initiative held once each term, to empower children to celebrate their own cultural identity and broaden their understanding of the diverse cultures around them through engaging, hands-on activities.
The objectives of having Cultural Day in MK@WV are:
To develop an awareness and recognition of local ethnic cultures through celebrations, customs and traditions as well as folklores
To interact with families, friends and community in their Mother Tongue Language.
To demonstrate respect towards different cultures and traditions

Chinese Cultural Day
Children learned about the traditions of the Dragon Boat Festival, explored the fragrance of traditional sachets, and discovered the ingredients used to make rice dumplings. We also practised paddling a dragon boat, working together as a team. Through shadow puppetry, we learned that the festival commemorates Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet.
Malay Cultural Day
Children learned about bunga rampai, a meaningful and fragrant doorgift traditionally presented to guests at Malay weddings. This aromatic potpourri is made by finely slicing fresh pandan leaves and combining them with shredded flowers such as roses and jasmine, sometimes enhanced with rose water or essential oils. The mixture is then placed in small perforated containers. The children enjoyed making their own bunga rampai and were able to bring it home too!
Tamil Cultural Day
Children explored Indian culture by learning the benefits of eating on a banana leaf and practising eating with their right hand. They discovered the significance of mango leaves and made a mango leaf Thoranam, practised balance and coordination by dancing with a Karagam on their heads, and engaged in hands-on sensory play with traditional Indian kitchen utensils.
