Innovations @ West View

Independent Learners in Action (ILiA)

In 2010, the school introduced the ‘Independent Learners in Action (ILiA)’ programme for its P4 middle-performing pupils. They would identify existing problems in schools and generate creative solutions using the ‘Ideas Generation Tools’ to solve them. West View believes that ILiA will help our pupils to become confident and self-directed learners in the future, while doing their part to contribute towards school improvement.

P3 and P4 Experiential Learning Trails

To nurture and develop confident and independent learners, the school organised experiential learning trails for the P3 and P4 pupils using i-phones. This was at the Hort Park and Labrador Park. The trails were used to assess pupils’ learning in English, Mathematics and Science in an informal setting. Pupils were given personal portfolios for self-monitoring and evaluation.

Go Green Initiative

West View set up an infrastructure to collect and recycle rainwater, under the Corporate and School Partnership Programme (CASP) with Pfizer Asia Pacific Pte Ltd in 2010. Since then, 1849 litres of rainwater has been used for irrigation and cleaning purposes.  This has translated to a savings of $1075.00 in utilities. The system was viewed by Mr George Routhier, the Managing Director of Pfizer Asia Pacific Pte Ltd during the school’s Chinese New Year celebration. Mr Routhier urged pupils to continue with conservation efforts.
