Chinese New Year Celebration

Chinese New Year, also known as the spring festival, is the most important celebration in the Chinese calendar.  The theme for the celebration this year is “Passing on the Light”, which represents the significance of passing on cultural heritage and accumulated wisdom to future generation.

Pupils of all races learned the basic aspects of Chinese tradition and culture and the story of “Nian” through presentations by their class teachers.  They were also engaged in making decorations for their classrooms using the fish mobiles they made and Chinese paper cutting. The judges had a difficult time deciding which class should win the prize for “Best Decorated Classroom” as all teachers and pupils put in their best effort decorating the classrooms.

Besides classroom activities, we also had an exhilarating celebration concert with “Guess the Chinese New Year Goodies” game and sing-a-long session. We were very honoured to have Mr George Routhier (Managing Director of Pfizer) and Mr Teng Chong Seng (Environment Health Safety) as our guests-of-honour.  They made Hong Bao donation together with other invited guests and our school leaders.  The guests also viewed the rainwater harvesting system in our school.

It was certainly an unforgettable Lunar New Year celebration for everyone as we have a better understanding of the uniqueness of the Chinese culture.
