Visit to YOG Learning Centre

Pupils visited the YOG Learning Centre as part of the Regional Studies for EMP in August 2009. They gain insightful information on Olympic Movements and Sports. At the end of the learning journey, they are inspired to apply the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect in their daily lives. Pupils completed a poster presentation on their learning journey during the EMP lessons.

Pupils' Reflections:

A few days ago, my classmates and I had an exciting & fun trip to CCKSS (Chua Chu Kang Secondary School) to learn more about Sudan. When we arrived we went to sit on the floor near the exercising area. After a few short minutes waiting there, we (My Group) first proceeded to a classroom beside the art room. Some of CCKSS students gave us a presentation. Then we had a gallery walk. We were given a worksheet and were given a certain amount of time to finish it (I forgot how long). We had to look for the answers in the exhibits. We were also allowed to sample some Sudanese food. After that, we went to the art room. We had to form groups of four and paint an African animal. My group painted a giraffe. After that we went to the courtyard to take a picture with the principle of the school and some of the students. Then we went back to the school to have our EMP lesson on relationship. I had a memorable and enjoyable time at CCKSS. Anthony Ardi Sukotjo

I have never been to Sudan and I also do not know that there is a country called Sudan. After going to Chua Chu Kang secondary, I learnt quite a lot of things. Sudan's main speaking language is Arabic, English, and Dinka.  Although Sudan lies within the tropics, the climate ranges from arid in the north to tropical wet-and-dry in the far southwest. Jia Yi

I had never heard of this country named Sudan and never knew it ever existed.  Not until we went to Chua Chu Kang Secondary School. There, we learnt many knew stuff such as the Capital of Sudan, the traditions, cultures, and the languages they learnt, and many others. At Chua Chu Kang Secondary, we ate Sudanese food, such as mango pudding, Sudanese rice, Sudanese Chicken and Some vegetables of fruits. Mostly, I like everything except for the fruits and vegetables (because I am not someone who eats healthy fruits and vegetables).  The pupils there were very kind and we had a tour around to see their masterpieces of Sudan. They were incredible and I am sure that the pupils have put in a lot of effort. We did some paintings there. It was about the animals living there. Ardi, Daniel, Sheila and I painted a giraffe, and it was very nice, due to Ardi's skills on painting. To sum it all, we had a great and enriching time there and we would like to thank the pupils there for being such wonderful hosts. Eriko Tanzil
