Synopsis:
Experiential learning or education is any form of teaching that utilizes direct "hands-on" experience. Experiential learning addresses the needs and wants of the learner. Pupils embarked on an experiential learning journey to Tanjong Chek Jawa where they explore the biodiversity of Tanjong Chek Jawa and study the interactions of organisms within the different ecosystems of Chek Jawa. The lesson emphasizes student-centred activities incorporating science journals; both KWL and nature journal as a form of self reflections on the processes of how students learn. Science journals do not only illuminate pupils’ learning, it also emphasizes the importance of pupil’s own cognitive and verbal efforts to make sense of science phenomena. The lesson also provides opportunities for pupils to display their creativity, enterprising skills as well as language skills acquisition; harnessing their potential in designing educational and interactive boardgames as well as a book on “The Diary of Chek Jawa”.
