The Form Teacher Guidance Period (FTGP) was introduced to primary schools in 2010 in support of the
recommendations by the Primary Education Review and Implementation (PERI) Committee.
The FTGP is a strategy to provide time for form teachers to build positive relationships with their pupils. It
is one of the key ‘Strategies to Ensure More Attention to Individual Pupil Development throughout Primary
School Life’ (SEAIP). These strategies create stable and positive teacher-pupil relationships and strengthen
the provision of pastoral care. We are of the view that these strategies will provide pupils with positive school
experiences and develop in them competencies to manage themselves, their relationships and make good decisions.
In 2011, our school embarked on the FTGP journey with the Primary 1 and 2 pupils. This year, we have extended
it to all our pupils. FTGP is conducted once a week within the school’s curriculum time for all classes by the form
and co-form teachers. During the lessons activities will be conducted to allow for purposeful pupil-teacher interactions
and the explicit teaching of Social-Emotional (SE) competencies. 1. Play activities between the teachers and pupils so as to build a safe classroom environment for pupils and to
enhance bonding between form teacher and pupils;
